Pura Java Coffee Roasters was founded in 2008 by Richard Colt and Fielding Cocke, Houston natives and lifelong friends. Colt is a veteran of the coffee industry, in business since 1992.

Cocke is a long-time coffee aficionado, whose wine-tasting background plays an important role in developing the flavor profiles of pure java coffee.

Unlike many other roasters, java pura does not have a shop, instead focusing solely on selling its coffees to other businesses. As a result, their coffee can be found in many upscale grocery stores, farmers markets, restaurants, cafes, and bars in the Houston area and elsewhere in Texas.

java pura takes a unique personal approach to sourcing their coffee: all their imports come from Central American farmers with whom they deal directly and know in person (and a Kenyan cooperative, with whom they also deal directly).

By cutting out the middlemen, java pura not only has great control over the quality of its coffee, but also practices and promotes sustainability and responsibility in the specialty coffee trade.

district

district roasters was founded in 2014 by a small group of people with a vision. their goal was to use specialty coffee roasting to fight economic, physical, and spiritual exploitation and oppression around the world.

Your motto is “from source to market to source”, which means that the ultimate beneficiaries of your product are the people who produce it.

Historically, coffee farmers have been exploited by large corporations and pushed into poverty, and many still are. redirecting profits to the source not only helps these farmers, but also the communities that surround them.

The district achieves this goal by optimizing production and cutting out all middlemen. This means they source their coffee directly from the farmers and also sell it directly to consumers, either at farmers markets in the Houston area or on their website.

their philanthropic mission does not distract them from producing premium coffee. all of their coffee is 100 percent organic and carefully selected for flavor, balance, and consistency.

The coffees are roasted by hand and each batch is inspected for quality. They sell single origins and blends, from places like Central and South America, Africa, and Papua New Guinea.
