Best Fort Greene Coffee Shops

Looking for the best coffee shops in Fort Greene? we got you. some days there’s nothing better than grabbing a cup of coffee, a light cake (or two), and posting up at a local coffee shop to work for the day.

There are other days, like weekends, to have a coffee, take a long walk around the neighborhood or go to the park that makes every New Yorker happy. Fort greene coffee shops are best for both scenarios.

where to get good coffee in fort greene

bittersweet

180 dekalb avenue

Bittersweet is truly the idyllic neighborhood coffee shop and Fort Greene proves it, lining up daily on the sidewalk for some of the best coffee in Fort Greene. the interior space is small and used for ordering only. there are only a few seats in the front so plan to grab your coffee and breakfast to go and head to fort greene park which is only a few blocks away and is one of the best parks in brooklyn.

all coffee is roasted at la colombe and baked goods and sandwiches are created in-house. they also have dough donuts (one of the best donut places in brooklyn), choice pastries, and balthazar bread.

the best part is that they make their own oat milk and it’s amazing! everything is delicious and sweet and sour is the perfect place to meet a friend for coffee and a cake (or sandwich) to go.

hungry ghost

781 fulton street

housed inside an old tire shop on a casual corner of fulton street, the hungry ghost is a name you’ve definitely heard for one of the best multi-coffee cups of coffee in the city in brooklyn. With multiple locations throughout brooklyn and manhattan, it’s always one of my favorites because they make coffee so well, but this fort greene location is definitely one of the best.

If you’re early, be sure to order the Cheddar Dill Biscuit. they go fast and for good reason. if you don’t make it on time their other cakes are great too and they have delicious salads and sandwiches if you come later in the day. the matcha is one of my favorites and it is always delicious no matter where you visit.

hungry ghost uses stumptown cafe and is open early to late, making it one of the best places to meet a friend for coffee or work for the day. the space is clean, naturally lit, and welcoming, with comfortable chairs for solo sitting and long communal tables if you want to work with friends. They also have a couple of outdoor seats and wifi that works fast.

cool coffee slime

64 lafayette avenue, suite b

baba cool cafe is a truly delicious meal that is set up as an all day cafe with bowls, toasts, salads, sandwiches, coffee, wine and delicious cocktails.

conveniently located right next to the g and c train, this is a great place to grab a quick bite to or from work or a great space if you just need to get out of your apartment for a while. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating and their outdoor seating is especially inviting with string lights and white tables, while their indoor seating is complete with cozy booths.

You really can’t go wrong with any of their menu options, but my go-to is always one of their salads and bowls. they also have a side of just about anything you can think of to add to your meal and they have great cakes and desserts, which you feel less guilty about because you just ate such a healthy meal.

baba cool is a great place to work, meet friends, eat or grab a coffee to go. They also have wine and cocktails if you visit later in the day.

also cafeteria

578 myrtle avenue

tb coffee house is not only one of the best cafes in fort greene but also one of the most aesthetically pleasing and extremely comfortable for meetings, catching up with friends or spending the whole day sipping lattes and catching up with work.

they feature a beautiful modern design and have a garden to the rear and a large window to the front. they have several tables, and although the interior feels small, it always feels like there is plenty of space to relax and work.

the coffee is top notch and there is an extensive menu of options to choose from. they also have pastries, sandwiches, and desserts, all equally delicious. They also allow you to reserve their space for private events.

hunger

49 willoughby avenue

If you’ve read our guide to the best brunch in clinton hill, you’ll have seen that pecks make the list, which is what they call “the slightly different older cousin of pecks.” peck’s is the most “brunchy” environment where peckish gives you the best coffee shop vibes you need, making peckish one of the best coffee places in fort greene.

peckish vibes are perfect for work or a quick coffee on the go. it is just a few blocks from fort greene, the perfect place to enjoy your coffee and pastry.

peckish uses beans from joe coffee and has just created a new menu featuring baked goods and savory snacks. they have just about every cake you can think of, baked fresh every morning, and one of my favorite flat whites. They have indoor and outdoor dining.

jill lindsey

370 myrtle avenue

There’s nothing better than a combination shop and cafe in my opinion, and this is exactly what Jill Lindsey is! Located on Myrtle Avenue, this store has it all, from very cute women’s clothing to tarot cards, great gifts for friends or family (or yourself), and a very delicious cafe. They also have wellness events and specifically work with many local Brooklyn artists.

the coffee is some of the best in fort greene and there is a long coffee bar in the store where you can sit and work or meet a friend.

you can also take the coffee to go and browse the entire store. they have a few small bites available including a couple of cakes and a few desserts. the space is top-notch, carefully curated, and as I mentioned above, perfect for everything you need.

paulette coffee

1 location in south elliott

café paulette is located right across from fort greene park and the sidewalk and indoor dining area immediately makes you feel like you are transported to a cafe in paris, making this one of the best coffee shops in fort greene. They take reservations and have indoor and outdoor dining as well as a smaller bistro next door, petite paulette.

Although they open a little later than some neighborhood coffee shops, this is one of my favorite places to work (and people watch). not to mention they have delicious coffee and great breakfast items to choose from.

bkg coffee roasters

557 myrtle avenue

Another great coffee shop located in the center of myrtle avenue is bkg coffee roasters. the cafe is designed in a very minimalist approach with the revolving pastry menu on what looks like a big piece of craft paper and the coffee menu is perfectly crafted for one of the best cups of coffee in fort greene.

They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, but the outside is a giant courtyard with long picnic tables and art on the walls.

The interior space offers the perfect place to meet a friend or work. the outdoor space also has some shaded areas. the sandwiches are also offered later in the day and do yourself a favor and save room to order ham and swiss with smoked ham, swiss, arugula and honey mustard.

the fiction center cafe

15 lafayette avenue

just like jill lindsey mentioned above, the fiction center cafe offers a two for one; part bookstore and part cafeteria. Because you’re surrounded by books, the fiction center cafe is one of the best places to work. they have a lot of space to work or you can have a coffee and read the books.

The space is bright with large open windows where you can watch all the books on display go by. They also have several events throughout the week, including a quiet reading hour where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee or a glass of wine.

this is also one of our favorite independent bookstores in brooklyn!

nods

14 clermont avenue #1l

head hello has all the same vibes as jill lindsey and the cafe downtown fiction. it’s a cafe meets bookstore and music. the music is always playing and there is always a big event that includes musical performances, art exhibits or book launches.

the coffee is delicious and they have a great menu for breakfast, lunch and pastries that change every time I visit. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are open from early to late afternoon, making it a great place to hang out with friends, attend an event, or work.

calyer coffee and kitchen

519 myrtle avenue

calyer cafe and kitchen is the perfect stop for a great cup of coffee in fort greene. They not only have great coffee, they also have some of my favorite sandwiches in Brooklyn. the cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating and often keeps regular customers working all day behind their laptops.

All coffee is brewed locally at partner coffee roasters and the sandwich ingredients are prepared in-house. the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is the best thing on the menu, followed closely by the ham and cheese sandwich that features a blueberry mostarda spread on toasted organic ciabatta as its winning ingredient. They also have salads, but do yourself a favor and stick around for breakfast and lunch to try these delicious sandwiches.

the little monster

82 washington avenue

le petit monstre comes from the same owners as clementine bakery, which is one of my favorite bakeries in the city and one of the best bakeries in brooklyn. le petit monstre lives up to all the same standards. all their cakes are delicious and made by hand every day. their matcha is one of my favorites, but their lattes are amazing too.

this is a great place to work or a great place to meet your friends. the store is full of plants, adding a very nice and relaxing atmosphere. the food and coffee is amazing and its the perfect place to relax which makes it one of the best cafes in fort greene.

cafefornia cafeteria

360 myrtle avenue

cafefornia is one of the best cafes in fort greene to work for. there are many indoor and outdoor seating options, many different menu items including specialty coffees, pastries, egg sandwiches, and burritos. they also have some of the best tea options in fort greene and have very creative (and delicious) options to add to your chai tea.

Do you plan on staying for a while? They also have sandwich and shake options and are open early to late afternoon. the staff is also very friendly and extremely helpful.
