Until recently, I would always roll my eyes when I heard someone talk about a Jura coffee maker. You see, I was a little wary of the Swiss, who in my mind overrated their Jura coffee machines, also known as super-automatic espresso machines. I just couldn’t understand why an automatic espresso machine needed to cost what it swears.
However, every time I review a Jura coffee machine, I appreciate what they have to offer. In fact, I discovered that Jura espresso machines currently offer the best espresso and coffee that automatic espresso machines can produce. That’s saying a lot considering how much coffee I drink in any given week.

why are swear coffee makers so expensive?
If you are going to charge a premium for an automatic espresso machine, you must not only provide the best features, design and quality with no compromise possible, but also a sense of exclusivity reflected in the entire selling concept. Jura is a luxury brand that delivers on all these fronts.
An important factor in practically all Jura Home coffee machines is price stability. Case in point: The price I paid for the Jura E8 hasn’t really changed in the months since I bought it. we can interpret that as quality. just take a look at the prices of other brands of automatic espresso machines. they go up and down all the time.
Whether it’s the latest model, a classic or an entry-level model, Jura coffee makers are true workhorses. they last for years, delivering consistently good espresso and suffer from very few issues not covered by warranty. In other words, your Jura coffee machine will rarely need a major repair.
what is the difference between the swear models?
At Jura, product lines are numbered more simply than at other manufacturers. the amount of quality depends on which swear coffee maker you buy within a particular product line.
Take for example the entry-level a-series or d-series models, which typically retail for $799-$999. other manufacturers would call the espresso machines mid-range at these prices, but the advantage here is that you get an exceptional, high-quality design for your money. although the coffee is very good, there is still room for improvement.
next is the e series of jura coffee machines. These Jura models offer a lot of value for an affordable price… at least relative to other Jura coffee machines.
Moving on to the z-series and giga-series, the espresso and frothed milk are excellent, while the coffee grind performance and setting options are excellent. even flat white looks less fancy on some devices.
The price of a Jura coffee maker is not for the faint of heart, so keep reading. Like all things in life, that old adage “you get what you pay for” is crying out in the back of your mind.
For me personally, it is not yet known if I can accept the jura approach to cleaning espresso machines. Call me old school, but I want to be able to remove the brew group so I can clean it up by hand.
Although it is true that Jura coffee machines offer a decent cleaning program and numerous automatic solutions to clean the brew group, there is a drawback. is that it increases water consumption… thus increasing the need for cleaning tablets and descaling solutions.
Enough stalling for now! I finally found a way to solve, once and for all, if having a fixed brew pool is as big a problem as I make it out to be. that’s why I’ve started a long-term test that will yield some empirical evidence to inform my opinions.
I’m going to use a Jura espresso machine for a whole year and then completely disassemble it. that’s when we’ll see what the brew chamber actually looks like after regular use. Will it be as clean inside as it swears? we will find out! I may have to eat a humble cake.

When it comes to listing the pros and cons during comparison, Jura coffee machines often seem to balance each other out. however, this only works when we remove prices from the analysis, which is what people do when they imagine they own the Ferrari of automatic espresso machines.
When money is not an issue, Jura coffee makers speak for themselves.

- the intricate design shines in durability and elegant feel, if only in aluminum and plastic materials.
- The grinding ability of the cone or disc grinders is quite reliable – most versions now have a continuously variable grinder for your coffee beans!
- patented processes like pulse extraction process (pep) or smart water system (iws) optimize brewing, even if no one knows how.
- customer favourites, such as individual coffee profiles, one touch function and extra shot function, are often standard.
- The most important factors (temperature, amount of ground coffee, aroma levels, coffee strength, etc.) can always be adjusted, even on entry-level Jura coffee machines.
- Ideas like “fine foam technology” aren’t just swearing marketing jargon, they really work!
- Operation is almost always simple and intuitive, whether via a touch screen or a smartphone.
- all machines work with an automatic milk frothing system (a cappuccinatore), except the jura a1 dairy-free. manual steam wands are no swearing.
- descaling program and cleaning programs are well thought out, they have to be.
- lifetime is high even with intensive use.
- price-wise, the devices are always above standard market prices, even with equivalent equipment: buying Jura coffee machines at a discount is not that easy to do.
- A basic milk container is not included with the machine. Instead, Jura wants to sell you a separate Jura-brand container, one of which is a pitcher equipped with a wireless adapter. I’d probably be less resistant if it were included with every Jura coffee maker. on the other hand, that might mean raising the price, which is probably why you swear to avoid doing it.
- Regular maintenance and repair of the jura coffee machine, although rarely needed, can be costly and complicated, in part due to the fixed brew group.

jura coffee machines are easy to differentiate: the further back in the alphabet the letter goes, the broader the coffee specialties, functions and price. this is especially true of high-quality machines marked “giga”, which play in the gastronomic league.
When a Jura super-automatic espresso machine has a two-digit numerical code, it’s usually a somewhat modified version of one from the main series. however, I haven’t quite cracked the code as to whether these mods are more luxurious or more modest.
jura is also one of the few brands that doesn’t constantly introduce supposedly new devices to look current and increase the desire to buy. I think it’s a good attitude, you could almost call it “sustainability”.
In the meantime, I’ve selected one or more models from almost every line and decided on clear winners. once again, this just goes to show that jura home coffee machines are always best when they’re not trying to be affordable or suitable for the masses.

jura giga 6 – best performing jura coffee maker
I admit I bought and tried the Jura giga 6 for fun. why? Well, because this monster of $5949.00 is a bit excessive, even for someone with the most exquisite tastes.
jura giga 6 walks the line between a consumer and a professional gastronomic device, and offers an incredible number of features. comes with a clearyl smart water filter among other fun accessories.
I am very excited about this goliath swears coffee maker. The Jura Giga 6 doesn’t have to shy away from comparisons, not even a bit, and it makes fantastic coffee.
as for the user experience, it is excellent, especially on the tft screen, which I prefer to the application. however, the coffee spout could use height and width adjustment. I’m sure you’d say the same about legroom in a Ferrari!
The grinder is not only infinitely variable, but there are even two independent electronically controllable grinders. handwork is great! even the flat white tastes almost like it’s from an espresso machine at a cafe, all at the touch of a button.
everything about the jura giga 6 is super, cool and any other amazing adjective you’d use to describe a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. That’s why I’ve called it the “best performing” Jura coffee maker.
This Jura espresso machine continues to demonstrate what we can expect from modern automatic espresso machines. that’s why the test report is so informative.

swear giga w3
Originally released in 2016, the Jura Giga W3 has a lot going for it, but it’s not on the same level as the Jura Giga 6.
if you take a look at the bean hopper on the jura giga w3, you’ll be surprised to see a 35.3 oz (1 kg) monster. this may seem like a good thing to some of you. however, in reality, having so many beans in a single hopper is inconvenient. if you want to use a different coffee one morning, you will need to manually empty the entire hopper before grinding and brewing.
also, the time it takes to use that amount of beans means your coffee beans would be exposed to unnecessary moisture, which affects the flavor.
the jura giga w3 is not compatible with the jura app and does not have a touch screen. I don’t know about you, but after using my smartphone all these years, I’m not looking forward to stepping back to push buttons on the side of a screen.

You also can’t adjust the temperature of the milk like on the newer giga 6. and last but not least, there is no option to save a custom drink profile.
all this to say that the jura giga 6 offers much more for your money than the w3.

swears z6, z8 & z10: does the z-series offer hidden test winners?
if we’re comparing the giga series to a luxury car, then the z series might best be described as a luxury family car like audi or bmw. That’s because Jura’s Z-series offerings are more balanced and reasonable than hype.
jura z6 – the best swear coffee maker overall
the jura z6 is an extraordinary automatic espresso machine. in fact, I call it the “best swear coffee machine overall.”
With the best price-performance ratio of all Jura models, the Jura Z6 is a perfect blend of classic styling and modern innovation.
The exquisite milk foam is outstanding, and black coffee has never tasted so good. Plus, all the features are easy to understand and make sense. everything offers a luxurious and refined product experience.
although the jura z6 produces a splendid milk foam, it is important to note that it only has a thermoblock heating system. that’s not a deal breaker by any means, but it’s something to keep in mind if you make a lot of milk-based drinks like cappuccinos and lattes.
Having two heating elements adds a lot of efficiency because it eliminates the delay between brewing espresso and frothing milk. Still, I’ve enjoyed plenty of lattes from the z6 and am more than pleased.

jura z8: the best for lovers of coffee with milk
the $3,195.00 Jura Z6 and the $4,495.00 Jura Z8 are quite similar. both have a combo spout, over 20 pre-programmed coffee-based beverages, as well as brew parameters you can adjust.
however the jura 8 has a touch screen instead of a tft screen. The Jura Z8 can also froth milk and coffee at the same time, thanks to having two thermoblock heating systems built into the design.
the jura z8’s ability to brew milk and coffee at the same time makes cappuccinos and latte macchiatos even better. It’s really hard to argue with the convenience of this feature, which has earned the Jura Z8 coffee maker the title of “Best for Latte Lovers”.
In any case, believe me, you can hardly do a better thing with your coffee beans than running them through a Jura Z-series super-automatic espresso machine!

jura z10 – better for cold extraction
The recently released $4,299.00 Jura Z10 is a hot item this year. ironically, I’ve awarded it “best for cold extraction,” which should serve you well on a hot day. I debated calling it “best for cold brewing”, but feel a bit conflicted about referring to “iced coffee drinks” as “cold brew”. however, this is a masterpiece of a machine!
the jura z10 has a very high quality design that will satisfy even the most demanding users. I should know; I was impressed!
in my jura z10 review i wonder if this might be the best jura model yet. It resembles the Jura Giga 6 in many ways. the main differences are that the jura z10 has 32 special drinks programmed instead of the “insignificant” 28 of the giga 6.
the jura z10 only has a thermoblock heating system, which is probably due to the dominant focus on the cold extraction process. It also has Jura’s 8th generation brewing unit with 3D brewing technology. the claim to fame here is that it supposedly allows water to flow evenly through the ground coffee at multiple levels, which is especially important for cold brewing.
only one bean hopper and one grinder are also on the z10, while the giga 6 has two of each. however, the grinder on the z10 is noticeably quieter than other swear models.
The way I talk about this beauty, I almost feel like I’m cheating on my jura giga 6…as if that’s even possible.

the e-series: trendy on a budget!
jura e8 – the best economical jura coffee maker
the e series of jura coffee machines is generally very consistent. it was my review of the jura e8 that first stole my heart. in true romeo and juliet style, i realized the beauty that the swear family – capulet – could offer.
Thanks to the pulse extraction (pep) process and numerous sensible setting options, a very good espresso comes out of the coffee outlet. Cappuccinos, lattes, and latte macchiatos are also pretty impressive.
In the Jura e-series coffee machines, you control everything in the classic Jura way via the buttons and the display. the grinder is continuous, but everything else seems a bit dated. Of course, that’s the advantage of these coffee makers: they make a beautiful and hassle-free brew!
the grinder also works quietly. unfortunately, however, we have to accept the fact that the 2-cup feature does not apply to milk-based beverages.
The Jura E8 also only has a thermoblock heating system, so you can’t make espresso and milk foam at the same time. That’s also part of why this machine costs significantly less than, say, the Jura Z8.
Available for $2,330.00, I’m naming the Jura E8 as the “best budget” Jura coffee maker. While it’s still a lot of money compared to other luxury Jura models, the features packed into this automatic espresso machine make it a great deal.

the $1,299.00 jura e6 bears many similarities to its sibling jura e8. one notable difference is in the number of pre-programmed specialty coffees. The Jura E6 only has 7 specialty coffees, while the E8 has 17.
for the price of this machine, I would choose the delonghi dinamica plus.

the ena series: a light version of the jura e series?

The Jura Ena series hasn’t really caught my eye like other Jura coffee machines, but each machine has its own merits. The Jura Ena 8 has a slightly smaller form factor than the Jura E-series machines.
The water tank is a bit smaller than an e-series, and the bean bin holds half that. I see this as a huge advantage as it makes changing beans more often less of a hassle. It will also prevent you from developing the habit of leaving too many coffee beans in your automatic espresso machine, where moisture can contaminate the beans.
the ena 8’s “multi-level” aroma grinder doesn’t necessarily mean that much: the grind range of jura coffee machines is roughly equivalent to a standard six-stage grinder.

something I haven’t talked about much is the value of the swear app. I like to think of it as “artificial intelligence”,
Here, “artificial intelligence” means that the most frequently used coffee presets are automatically arranged at the top of the hierarchy within the touch screen “home page”. By the way, this is normal for high-end machines, but it is a strong selling point for the Jura E8 coffee maker.

swear ena 4
jura ena 4 sells for $979.00. Wait! why so cheap? well, because this automatic espresso machine does not have a milk foam function. is intended for people who love coffee black and don’t want anything to do with milk or can’t tolerate it. I almost called this swear coffee maker “best for the lactose intolerant,” but decided I would be insensitive.
As you might expect, there is only a thermoblock heating system. after all, there’s no need to froth milk if you don’t drink it, right? Actually, I kind of disagree on this point. I love the taste and feel of black coffee, and sometimes enjoy delicious milk-based beverages as well.
But even if I only drank my coffees black, surely my friends and family would enjoy being able to make a cappuccino or latte at will. That’s why I think it’s always better to buy a multi-purpose automatic coffee maker… unless you have a medical need that requires you to stay away from dairy.

swears to1: pretentious purism for those who live alone
No one scratches their heads anymore when a super-automatic coffee maker without milk frother competes against other machines in the category. That’s why $798.95 Jura A1 is a good choice if you don’t need a milk frother and want to spend less money than on a “real” automatic espresso machine.
In my test, the Jura A1 made a good impression on me with its noble purism. Available in piano black or piano white, the high-quality craftsmanship, intuitive operation, and aroma of espresso are top-notch. the grinding results, the amount of coffee, the extraction time and the pressure of the pump are also spot on.
The professional aroma grinder is continuously adjustable, which means you can influence the extraction process to get the results you’re looking for in the cup.
Lacking a milk container, the Jura A1 is small and slim, but impressive. Like the Jura Ena Micro 90, the Jura A1 has a strong minimalist design.
It seems to me that the Jura A1 is the most suitable for those who live alone. hence the “best to live alone” award.

other swears coffee machines: should we even compare them?
Just because there’s a Jura cappuccino machine in this section doesn’t mean I won’t give it a try in the future. I just don’t see any reason to try these models at the moment.

Take the Jura d6, for example. I just haven’t been very impressed so far. if we omit the a1, this is technically the entry-level swear machine. you just get a plain text digital display and cappuccinatore system, and you control it via rotary knobs. If you buy this Jura espresso machine, tell your friends you’ve gone retro!
a jura d6 coffee machine will set you back $900.00, which is certainly fine since it offers pre-programmed beverages and surface design. however, in this area, there is no question between jura or delonghi: the italians give you much more machines for the same amount of money. check out my delonghi dinamic review for more information.

swear s8
the jura s8 coffee maker sits between the e-series and z-series in the lineup, while the jura x8 has completely disappeared from the manufacturer’s site. however, you can still buy it through a third-party site like amazon, at least at the time of this writing.
If you come across old Jura coffee makers, such as the c-series or the j-series, I recommend you stay away from them. Jura has been through many product cycles since making them. They are nowhere near what Jura coffee machines are today.
on the other hand, the jura s8 coffee maker was launched in 2018 and is still very relevant. With an impressive touch screen and a lever to adjust the milk foam, the Jura S8 is packed with premium features, but costs much less than a Z-series machine.

jura seems to have lost interest in jura we6 and jura we8, so I’m going to do the same.
I’m not sure if the lack of focus in the jura we series is due to the international microchip shortage caused by a pandemic, or if jura just moved.
It could be that any other Jura coffee machine is selling better. Whatever the case may be, I cannot recommend buying a WE series machine at this time. clearly, something is going on.
from follower to innovation leader? coffee makers swear & the competition
While I prefer Jura coffee machines, that doesn’t mean I like the overall price-performance ratio. there just aren’t any bargains here, even during a jura coffee machine sale.
On top of that, it’s not yet known if I can accept Jura’s approach to cleaning espresso machines. Call me old school, but I want to be able to remove the brew group so I can clean it up by hand.
However, there are several Jura coffee machines mentioned here today that I have given a clear purchase recommendation.
Increasingly forging its own path, in the past, Swear was mostly about looks, a sleek look with platinum or chrome and a snobbish attitude to boot. In my opinion, consumer review organizations have always been blinded by these things.
Nowadays, everything in jura coffee machines revolves around perfect coffee from every type of coffee bean, as well as perfect milk consistency. The shelf life of Jura coffee machines is also not unmentioned. they last a long time.
It is true that you have to shell out more money for this superior performance and excellent user experience in comparison. Seriously, what could be more important to automatic coffee machine owners than the quality of the coffee?
These changes are exciting because the swearing competitor, miele, for example, is just as snooty, offers great design, and yet isn’t as expensive. Of course, Miele has yet to saturate the market like Jura coffee machines have, which is saying something.
jura coffee machines rely more on the luxury look, especially at price points ranging from $800 to $6000. In addition to that, with almost all the tests, I am more and more convinced that the results of the Jura Cup have winning potential.
While I tend to use a strategic approach in my benchmark reviews (evaluating devices on multiple benchmarks, from user experience to cleanliness), it can pigeonhole some machines. Just as it would be impractical to compare a Ferrari with a Honda, it is not exactly reasonable to compare Jura coffee machines with the rest.
